Santiago del Teide initially approves a record budget of more than 24 million euros with an increase of more than 400% in investment

The three main axes on which this initial budget is built are social spending, improvement of services and, fundamentally, investment.

The Santiago del Teide City Council approved today, in a plenary session, the initial consolidated budget for an amount of €24,262,976.28, the largest in its history and which is based on 3 fundamental axes such as social spending, the improvement of the services and, above all, the investment that increases by €439.17% compared to the year 2023. The document had the votes in favor of the government group (PP) and the vote against the Canary Coalition.

The increase in the budget for 2024 by nearly 7 million euros is due to the inclusion in it of a subsidy of €6,619,931.91 within the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan that will allow the transformation of the municipal tourism model towards The sustainability.

The mayor, Emilio Navarro, revealed that the municipal accounts for the year 2024 “are based on three pillars which are the social spending that once again exceeds the 2023 budget by 20%; the quality services and, above all, the investment that grows by €439.17% in reference to that of the fiscal year 2023. Regarding investment, the subsidy of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan will represent a historic advance for the municipality which will take the form of investments to develop different tourist projects such as the improvement and conditioning works on Flor de Pascua street in Los Gigantes, the regeneration of the Lermes ravine where an urban park is planned, a parking lot that would put an end to the problem of mobility in Los Gigantes as well as a bathing area in addition to improving the connection to the municipality's coastline. On the other hand, there are the council's own investments, such as the completion of the sanitation works on El Agua Street in Tamaimo, the construction of the Grama Cultural Center in Santiago del Teide, the tennis courts in the La Hondura area and the Arguayo soccer field, among others.

Emilio Navarro highlights that “the 2024 budgets are, once again, purely social budgets. Social spending increases 20% more than in 2023, which represents a firm and determined commitment by this municipal government to people and to care for the population in vulnerable situations, as well as those who are going through great difficulties. Along these lines, the mayor of Santiago del Teide emphasized the support that the council budgets for families with dependent and vulnerable people in their care as well as the increase in social emergencies, contributions to different non-profit associations and the increase in provision of care for people with functional diversity in order to facilitate their daily life and their integration into society without forgetting our students and the help they need to pursue their studies, especially those who do so in higher education and "They have to move and even change their residence to do so, since Santiago del Teide is the municipality on the island furthest from the capital area."

Another point to highlight is that the subsidies for local commerce and for the start-up of business projects (€50,000), the renovation of furniture (€80,000) and contributions to consumer bonds (€50,000) are maintained with the same contributions. ) that will have an impact on the commercial sector and on the development of the municipality itself; All of this without proceeding to update the tax burden on our neighbors, since in times of crisis it is not fair to increase taxes on the citizens of Santiago del Teide.

As for services, another of the highlights of the budget, they will mean an increase in quality and improvement, above all, through the orders that are intended to be made to the public company with 100% Municipal capital. , Santiago del Teide Gestión S.L.; such as the management of the Tamaimo gym, the cleaning service of public centers and the accompaniment service for dependent people. This, maintaining the current services in municipal sports revitalization that brings sport closer to all the population centers of the municipality; as well as the management of municipal sports facilities.
