Santiago del Teide hosts the fourth edition of the program to rescue traditions around death "Postigos de Embrujo"
It will take place in the municipality from October 27 to November 2
The City Council of Santiago del Teide, in collaboration with the Government of the Canary Islands and the Cabildo of Tenerife, has launched a new edition of the cultural program "Postigos de Embrujo 2023", which on this occasion will be held from October 27 to November 2, with an extensive program of activities with which the consistory seeks to recover, protect and disseminate old traditions around the celebration of the Day of the Dead in the municipality, the Canary Islands and in other cultures of the world.
Regarding the origin of the cultural project "Postigos de Embrujo", which on this occasion celebrates its fourth edition, it is constituted as an ethnographic activity and promotes knowledge about the uses and customs that are part of the cultural heritage of the islands and the municipality.
In this new edition, the chosen theme will be linked to the customs around death that are part of Japanese culture and our own, in such a way that it reflects, through each "post," the way in which the terminal effect of life is experienced and assumed differently according to both cultures; hence, the content and activities integrated in said project are based on aspects related to fear and stories devoid of empirical reasoning, but that are part of the oral heritage of peoples.
In this sense, this programming will begin on Friday, October 27, and will do so with the celebration of our famous "Ruta de las Pelujas", which will have 3 passes and a circular route with departure from the public square to the Camino Real, Casona del Patio and back to the square; while on Sunday, October 29, at 6:00 p.m., the central courtyard of the City Hall will host the theatrical show "La Fosa", by Zalatta Theatre.
On Monday, October 30, for its part, from 6:30 p.m., the Tamaimo Social Centre will be the place since the Fabián Lomio Company stages its work "Funeral Planner"; while on Wednesday, November 1, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., a workshop of Japanese paper lanterns and a sweets workshop will be held in the central courtyard of the City Hall, highlighting that, from 4:30 p.m. and until 6:30 p.m., a "Batsudan workshop" will be held and the assembly of an altar of the Buddhist ancestors. Finally, it will be from 7:00 p.m. when the thematic show "Obon-Japan" will take place, which will feature music, offerings, explanation of the altar and tasting of "nerikiris wagashi".
Finally, on Thursday, November 2 and, as usual in the different municipal cemeteries, a music recital will be held in memory of the deceased by the group "Stgo. Quintet Brass."
People interested in attending the "Ruta de las Pelujas" as well as any of the planned workshops must register in advance through the phone 922-86-31-27, ext. 300 and/or 302.
