The city council announces the 2023 edition of the "Doña Concepción García Suárez" awards
This recognition seeks to carry out an annual recognition action to individuals or entities to reward their work in favour of gender equality
The City Council of Santiago del Teide has convened the 2023 edition of the "Doña Concepción García Suárez" Awards, which seek to promote equality between women and men, as well as publicly recognise people and entities that carry out activities that eliminate discriminatory conditions and attitudes based on sex and in general achieve the non-sexist construction of knowledge and culture and the eradication of gender violence.
Therefore, with respect to the prizes, which will not have an economic amount, it should be noted that the awarded persons will receive a formal declaration of recognition of the activities and projects subject to the call, as well as the award accrediting the award of the award.
As for the modalities of the awards, they are the following:
*Women in Media Awards: Any woman over 18 years of age, group, group, association, entity, who in the development of their activity from the media (whatever the format) has stood out for breaking barriers and stereotypes within this professional group will be eligible for the candidacy of this modality. Also, those who contribute to the dissemination of the values of equality and show reality by pointing out discrimination, or, on the contrary, carrying out positive actions, may choose.
*Women in Research Award: Any woman over 18 years of age, group, group, association, entity, who present studies or research that analyses or deepens a plot of reality from a gender perspective will be eligible for this modality. There will be valid research or studies related to the field of health, social, legal, psychological, educational, labour, scientific, etc ... or in any area that highlights the current inequalities between women and men in our society.
*Women and Art Award: Any woman over 18 years of age, group, collective, association, entity, who in the development of their personal, associative, cultural, professional, academic, teaching activity, have elaborated or developed artistic works that analyse or deepen a plot of reality taking into account the gender perspective and contribute to the visibility of women in this cultural field will be eligible for this modality.
* Women and Sport Award: Any woman over 18 years of age, group, collective, association, entity, who, due to their trajectory and / or personal or social involvement in the development of their professional work, has stood out for making sport visible with a gender perspective, as a space for tolerance and integration, where women develop and participate, with the aim of breaking the gender gap that still exists in certain disciplines and sports spaces that continue to perpetuate negative stereotypes towards women.
*Women Award and Social Initiative: Any woman over 18 years of age, group, collective, association, entity, who, due to their trajectory and / or personal or social involvement, have stood out for fighting for equal opportunities and against gender violence, promoting social changes in the lives of women who fall within their scope of action, will be eligible for this modality.
* Co-educational Project Award in Educational Centres: Schools, students, APAS and teachers who have incorporated into their educational project or planning, equality as an objective, and who are developing actions that promote gender equality in the different educational stages may be proposed.
* Honorary Award: Individuals or entities may be proposed that with their trajectory or work have contributed to the equal opportunities of women or the eradication of gender violence in a continuous and relevant way and that their work or social contribution can constitute a reference for other people.
As for the presentation of the candidacies, they must be presented at the General Registry office of the consistory until December 29, 2023, and must contain, at a minimum, the identification data of the organisation or entity that proposes the candidacy, as well as the person or entity proposed as a candidate, accompanied by:
A) Presentation or report justifying the merits and reasons that have motivated the presentation of the candidacy, as well as a curriculum vitae if appropriate.
B) Memory of the project or activity developed by the candidate person or entity, and must contain everything that the person making the application considers necessary for the best evaluation of the candidacy (initiative, work, project, experience, etc.).
Finally, it should be noted that the evaluation table will be chaired by the Councillor for Equality, also having a minimum of 5 members related and qualified in gender equality and whose decision of the jury will be carried out before March 8, 2024.
FIRST AND ONLY MAYOR OF SANTIAGO DEL TEIDE
Concepción García was the first and so far the only mayor that Santiago del Teide has had, specifically, she was mayor from February 5, 1933 to May 10, 1933. He began his career in the municipality as a teacher in Arguayo in the academic year 1931/1932. During her teaching period she was part of the management commission that chaired the City Council of Santiago del Teide until on the date previously named she was elected mayor.
Among his achievements was the supply of drinking water to the town of Arguayo.
