The city council turns La Sirena Street in Puerto de Santiago into a one-way down road
With this project, mobility is improved and safety on the street is increased
The City Council of Santiago del Teide has made the decision that has been supported by neighbours in different informative meetings to convert La Sirena street in Puerto de Santiago into a one-way street, in this case downhill.
The decision of Mayor Emilio Navarro has been made after checking and analysing mobility during the two weeks that said street remained open only in a downward direction due to the urgent sanitation works that had to be carried out.
After analysing road traffic during that time and seeing the municipal technical reports and the acceptance and support of neighbours and merchants, it has been decided to reorganize the traffic in that area, which will improve mobility, achieve smoother circulation and increase the safety of drivers and pedestrians.
This decision to reorder traffic is essential to improve the mobility and safety of the population, since due to the narrowness there were traffic jams and the safety of pedestrians, pedestrians and drivers was not entirely satisfactory. In addition, this project will allow the creation of new parking spaces, by becoming a one-way street and the image of it will be improved.
Until now, this was a two-way street, but its scarce width made it difficult to circulate in certain areas, especially during different hours of the day, on weekends and when there were events in the area as it is a main road of that town.
