The town council is organizing the 19th edition of the "Al Paso de la Cumbre" barter reenactment.
The event will take place this coming Sunday, June 28th, and aims to commemorate the most ancient form of "trade" between people from different municipalities.
The Santiago del Teide Town Council, in collaboration with the Tenerife Island Council through the Tenerife Rural Foundation and the town councils of Garachico and El Tanque, will celebrate the 19th edition of the barter reenactment entitled "Al Paso de la Cumbre" this coming Sunday, June 28th.
As in previous editions, a large number of people are expected to participate, dressed in the costumes worn by the peasantry of that era, including local chieftains, goatherds, witches, pig farmers, milkmaids, bakers, and others. To this end, tools, farming implements, and other items used in the past will be incorporated into the reenactment.
It is worth noting that this activity is a tribute to the generations of Canarians who traveled the roads and paths of the archipelago in search of a livelihood for their families. Therefore, one of its fundamental objectives is to revalue the products that were part of the exchange system and which influenced the social relationships established as a result of these commercial transactions.
In this sense, those who wish to enjoy a reenactment of the bartering of goods that took place in these areas not so many years ago can do so at the different meeting points prepared for the occasion:
- 10:00 a.m. in San Francisco de La Montañeta (Garachico).
- 11:30 a.m. in San José de Los Llanos (El Tanque).
- 1:30 p.m. in the public square of Santiago del Teide - after which attendees can enjoy a performance by the group “Paraíso” from Arguayo.
